Numerous things to discuss......

1. A BIG thank you to Jen at Just Foolin Blog Designs for giving me this super cute new blog! I love it and it makes me happy every time I look at it.

2. I am supposed to have a fill tomorrow and I am scared.  I am completely TERRIFIED of having the band be to tight.  I am satisfied with a 1/2-3/4 cups of food; however, it only lasts about two hours.  If I eat any more than that, I do have pain.  Also no matter what I eat or drink I get pain in my left shoulder (similar to the gas pain after surgery).

3. I read Lap Band Gal's post this a.m. as well as Cat's comments on her blog about being embarrassed or ashamed about weight loss surgery. At first I went from telling (well asking opinions from) everybody.  I thought I needed everyone's opinion of what to do.  You have those who say you don't need it (whatever - liars), those who say whatever you want to do, etc.  I never thought there was a stigma associated it until I mentioned it to this one girl at work.  Funny thing was - she makes comments about my weight all the time so I really thought she would be supportive but her response was "I think you are taking the lazy way out". I couldn't believe it. Now, this girl is generally very crass and kinda trashy so usually take what she said with a grain of salt, but this stung a bit.  I mean for gosh sake I have been on some sort of diet every day of my life, worked out lost 70lbs, gained it back etc.  So after that I decided I was going to tell nobody else because I didn't want people to think that I am as she said taking the lazy way out.  I never told her that I actually went through with the surgery - only that I was thinking about it.  Little does anyone know this is sooooooo far away from the easy way out!  It is hard, the surgery is painful, you have to be just as committed as before to diet and exercise and so on. Since the surgery, I have decided that I do not give a rats bum who knows or what they think (trying not to anyway).  I made this decision for me and my family, I know I am not lazy.

On a side note, I didn't tell my mom until the night before, we don't have the best relationship at all but she was watching my daughter while I was at the surgery center. She is not supportive at all she is basically silent (her way of passive/aggressively showing disapproval) about the whole thing.  What REALLY upset me is that my daughter was crying the day of the surgery - which I think it was normal for her to be nervous - but my mom calls me later and says "I just hope you know that you make a very emotionally traumatizing decision for your daughter" WHAT! I'm thinking I just did this for my daughter!  Come to find out, I am in the car with my daughter and she tells me "mom Grandma showed me all about your surgery online.... but your cuts don't look like that persons".  Well come to find out my mom let her read all about gastric bypass hence her fear and tears.  So frustrating.  SO SORRY FOR THE RANT!

Point being - I am NOT embarrassed or ashamed! :)

  1. Wow. How sad that you have people in your life who just do not get it! The blogs are so great for support. They have been a great source of comfort and help for me. Don't worry about the fill. The only thing that is uncomfortable is the novicane shot! I am going in for a fill tomorrow also. Good luck and don't let anyone keep your spirits down!

  2. You get shots for a fill? my surgeon just goes at it without anything. But you'll be fine! Just let them know food amount you're basically good, just need to work on how long you stay full. Ask for a smaller fill. And agreed, don't let anyone bring you down. You know who you did this for, and that's the important thing! (and I'd totally chew out my mom for showing my (hypothetical) daughter stuff about surgery without your input!)

    p.s. Love the new look!

  3. First...I love the new blog. It's so fresh and alive. Great choices.

Good for you for not caring what people think and not being embarrased.

Your mom was totally wrong. I hope that you find all the support you need to live this banded life to the fullest.

  4. Oh my. How terribly hurtful :( When no one supports us, we support ourselves. You've always got a group of cheerleaders on the blogs. Your decisions are the right ones - for you, first and foremost, and for Mya - so you can see her grow up into a woman. These first few months are tough for us, but we'll make it.

  6. People just don't get it, and unless they have food issues - THEY NEVER WILL! Just take solace in the fact that you're going to take it off and keep it off. Some don't have the option, and maybe that's why the negative feedback? Either way, it has nothing to do with you and your choice, it's about them and their unjustified negative opinions.

I can't believe your mother would do that to your daughter, I hate to say anything negative about people's mamas or I'd have some words about that! :(

Oh, and I absolutely love the new layout. :)

  7. Love the new blog design!

You have the right attitude...you are doing it for you and your family and that's all that matters. What your mother did was totally inappropriate but I have several passive-aggressive people in my family so I get it. Just continue to go about your life and don't worry about the nay-sayers...their opinion doesn't matter.

  8. some people don't understand but those people who aren't supportive usually don't play that big of a role in your life anyway.
I didn't tell my mom I got it done until later the day that I had the surgery. I was laying in the hospital bed.
I am glad that you are proud ofyour choiec and know the work that has to be put into it. Keep up the good work!

  9. No one should be embarrassed or ashamed but I've kept mine quiet. My mom was also silently disapproving but she's come around. It's just mean what she did to your daughter though.

As for the pain in your left shoulder. I had it for almost 8 months after surgery...especially if I ate too fast. It didn't FEEL too fast but it was. Once I really slowed down, it went away and I haven't had any problems since.

  11. I like your new blog. Jen realy seems to find our personalities, doesn't she?
Elizabeth, the choices you make for you and your family are yours to make. If you need support, put it out there, and your Blog Friends will give it. I have seen them in action!
Maybe your momma is just afraid for you? Sometimes people who don't have all the information imagine things are worse? I don't know her, you do; but I do know some people have a hard time showing love and support.

  12. Love love the new blog. Jen is such a blog goddess!

Cannot believe that coworker said you were taking the lazy way out. That's one of the reasons I only told a select few. It's only your business and noone elses!
